Before your Procedure
Following a healthy, and anti-inflammatory lifestyle for 1-2 weeks before your procedure will help you realize your best results. This includes:
- Hydrate appropriately- drink 90-100 ounces of water per day (or more if appropriate)
- Drink another 8-12 ounces of water for every cup of coffee or caffeinated drink
- Avoid inflammatory foods including excessive sugar, fried foods, or fast food
- Eat your vegetables- especially dark green/leafy ones like broccoli and kale
- Wear sunscreen and a sunhat when outdoors
- Get at least 20 minutes of moderate exercise per day
- Avoid alcohol, or at least minimize alcohol consumption to 3-4 drinks / week
- Make sure to try and get adequate sleep prior to your procedure
- Avoid aspirin, aspirin containing compounds, and NSAIDS (over the counter anti-inflammatories) unless instructed by a physician, as these medications can thin your blood leading to increased swelling, bleeding, and bruising.
- Avoid certain supplements that can thin your blood, as they can also increase you risk of swelling, bleeding, and bruising. This list includes:
- Fish Oil
- CoQ10
- Ephedra
- Green tea
- Ginseng
- Turmeric
- Ginger
- Ginkgo Biloba
- Garlic
- St. John’s Wort
- Kava Kava
- Vitamin C (more than 1000 mg/day)
- Vitamin E
- Glucosamine/Chondroitin
- Milk Thistle
The Day Of Your Procedure
For cosmetic procedures like microneedling and Halo:
- Be sure to bring a hat to wear home after your procedure
- Drink plenty of water the morning of your appointment
- Be sure to avoid any activities that have you outdoors and in direct sunlight for several days after your procedure
- Put an ice pack in your freezer- especially for a Halo
- Try to avoid putting on make-up, mascara, or eye liner.
- Wear comfortable clothing
- Ensure that your top is easy to get over your head or wear a button down top
After Your Procedure

- Continue to drink plenty of water
- Use sunscreen every day, and reapply throughout the day
- Eat a healthy diet rich in vegetables, fruits, and whole grains
- Exercise regularly
